Carve 1 evolved in reverse: I was examining more complicated forms, and with growing frustration, I pared it back. That was positive, and then it was clear - let the wood be the star of the show. Simplify and simplify more. Keep the shape transitions sharp, don't mediate. What's cool about it? Hide nothing, show the edge grain and the end grain. Watch those disappear and re-emerge in the bowl void, and watch it again on the opposite end. See inside the tree.
